Passion + Metacognition >>> Love

This table helps students situate themselves in relationship to their own passion, their studenting skills, and their relationship--or lack thereof--with the community. The questions here of course do not have "right" answers. Rather, they are designed to be metacognitive queries that open up self reflection for students and conversations for the class.

This table could very easily have been placed in the Passion and Purpose section of this website, but we are placing it in the LOVE section here because in our work with students we've seen over and over again that their love for themselves and for learning and for the larger world often is tied to uncovering and unleashing their own passions.

The Passion Table

       Self                       Classroom       Community

Taking classes

Pursuing major

Searching for my path

Following my passion

Not finding my passion

My studenting skills

My role in class

My interactions with teachers

My navigation of college

My involvement on campus

Volunteering

Getting involved

Service learning

My job

Why am I doing what I am doing?

Why am I NOT doing what I want to do?

What are my influences? What inspires me?

What am I afraid of?

Why are my studenting skills the way they are?

Why is the classroom the way it is?

Why are teachers the way they are?

Why is the college the way it is?

Why is my community the way it is?

How does it really work? How can we create a different reality?

How can I make a difference?

More Meta-cognition questions:

What I am doing about all this?

Why am I doing it?

How does it work?

What are the issues with it?

Why is it this way?

All these questions and this table can apply to teachers too.
