Katie Dickinson is the Lead Researcher at Teach Earth Action. As Lead Researcher, she stays current on areas of development that are directly relevant to addressing the climate crisis and climate injustices. She also sources grant opportunities to implement cutting edge and ambitious initiatives that bring together colleges, local communities, and civic partners in service of achieving a wide range of climate justice goals. She is managing 8 student interns who are conducting qualitative research to inform the City of Hayward about food insecurity, food access, and food justice issues in our service area.
Katie is also the Climate Action Coordinator at the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District. She conducts research on environmental justice policies and projects and educates key stakeholders on the importance of implementing these practices at the Colleges. She has identified and sourced grants, incentives, and scholarships that have helped the schools to begin a just transition to net zero emissions. She has completed each college’s greenhouse gas assessments, written both college’s updated Climate Action Plans, and started a paid internship program for students. To date she has managed 15 student interns who have completed projects on zero waste, climate justice, closed-loop energy systems, electrifying the District’s fleet vehicles, and improving climate literacy amongst our students.
Katie holds a Master’s degree from Northern Arizona University’s Climate Science and Solutions program and a Graduate Certificate in Greenhouse Gas Accounting. In her free time, she loves trail running with her dog, playing disc golf, weightlifting, and listening to Taylor Swift.
