Passion + Metacognition = Love

This table helps students situate themselves in relationship to their own passion, their studenting skills, and their relationship--or lack thereof--with the earth and community. The questions here of course do not have "right" answers. Rather, they are designed to be metacognitive queries that open up self reflection for students and conversations for the class.

We can’t demand that our students care about the fate of the planet; it is often just too abstract. We also can’t only crush them with the scary facts and trajectories. Igniting their passion is fundamental to helping them craft a purposeful relationship to their educationWe've seen over and over again that our students’ love for themselves and for learning and for the larger world often is tied to uncovering and unleashing their own passions.

More Meta-cognition questions:

What I am doing about all this?

Why am I doing it?

How does it work?

What are the issues with it?

Why is it this way?

All these questions and this table can apply to teachers too.
