Student Rebels against being Warehoused
In this viral video, high student Jeff Bliss admonishes his teacher for reducing students to only “doing frickin’ packets, yo.” Bliss is rebelling against the far-too-common situation where students are basically warehoused in the classroom. Their Capacity lies dormant. And as a result, so too does the teacher’s Capacity.
The TEA team has shown this short video many times in their own classrooms, using it as a prompt for opening up discussion and exploration about students’ relationship to their own education.
One lesson this video offers for TEA and faculty that we work with--especially in the face of the Climate Crisis--is that time ill-used drains away capacity--and thus our opportunity to create solutions.
