Chabot College  students offer their perspective on taking part in Action Learning opportunities. These Action Learning units involved interactions with the campus and with the wider community. 

“Action Learning allowed the students and myself to recognize the issues that are occurring in our neighborhood. The projects allowed us to brainstorm ways we can improve the community.”

“I really loved working in the group environment. I had the opportunity to learn a lot from my classmates and it really helped my interacting skills/life skills while completing the specific task in our class. I liked the fact of combining writing and multimedia because it gave the "proof" of what we were writing about. It backed us up as writers and showed our credibility.”

“I truly learned a lot in the class that I never imagined I would ever learn about our community and other communities out there sharing the world with us. It was a great experience and I truly wish we could do Action Learning in every class, it truly makes it fun and exciting to come to school everyday.” 

“Action Learning was a totally new experience for me since in all of my classes in the past I had one teacher talking in the front of the class while I was taking notes. I prefer the Action Learning style of classroom learning and interacting with the other students in the classroom.”

“I learned a lot more about my community through this class than any other. This strategy is brilliant as it gets the audience's attention because of the relatable topic, rather than having the professor talk about some random place in Spain.” 

“Action Learning really helped me to understand the concepts the teacher was putting forward. It really got me to think and engage.”

“With Action Learning, I got to team up with great minds. Not only did I get to share my passion, I got my opinions acknowledged and I made friends. The opportunity to work as a team, to try and optimize ways to achieve perfection with people that sees yourself in them and vice versa, creates rapport and boosts confidence.”

“Gave me confidence seeing everyone working and improving my skill by hearing other people's ideas. learning a lot of new things and decreasing my language barrier.” 

“I enjoyed learning this way.  There is more a family environment & I think everyone felt more connected to the Chabot community. It was nice for everyone to have a common goal in mind that we want to reach to better the community around us.”

“Personally, I know I do better in smaller groups because I’m shy and don’t do well under pressure, but with the help and encouragement of my team, it boosts everyone’s confidence. With Action Learning, I was able to use and develop my academic skills.”
